Sunrise - fresh starts - Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it.

Fresh Starts

Sometimes little phrases, thoughts, or ideas stick with us, and transform our thinking. One of my favorites is from Anne of Green Gables:

“Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it….”

― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

I first read this as a girl. And it stuck with me.

The context of the quote, and the wording itself, is about forgiveness and starting again. It’s about not dwelling on the past, but moving forward, fresh.

We are going to make mistakes. We are going to fall down on our own expectations as well as others’. And so are our kids, and others in our lives. We are human. Perfectly designed, but also perfectly Imperfect.

The process of learning and growing is about making mistakes, about falling down, *and* Getting Back Up, and trying again. Testing, trying, experimenting.  Learning, growing, and finding our way.

The message in this quote from LM Montgomery, is about Hope and Beginning Again.  Fresh Starts with hope and possibilties.

We don’t have to stay down. We don’t have to marinate in what didn’t work out. We can learn from it, and begin again from the lessons learned.  We get to make a choice, each and every day, to start again.

And that is a beautiful thing.

And apparently, LM Montgomery felt this too, as this is a theme throughout her books. Here’s another favorite, from Anne of Avonlea:

“Every morn is a fresh beginning, Every morn is the world made new.”

Sarah Chauncey Woolsey aka Susan Coolidge,
as quoted by L.M. Montgomery in Anne of Avonlea

As we move into summer, when our calendars can get a little crazy, out of routine, I encourage you to lean in to this idea, that every day is a fresh start.

And actually, we can choose a fresh start, any time we wish. Multiple times a day even. Just draw a line in the sand (figuratively), and move forward with intention.
